Good afternoon Mr. Quarterman,
As requested, the date for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
presentation will be on May 6th to Mayor/Council at the work session which begins at 5:30 pm. The City will also have a meeting with the residents and businesses in the USACE project / study area that same night at 6:30 pm at the City Hall Annex – Multipurpose Room.
Thanks, Emily
Emily P. Davenport, Stormwater Manager
City of Valdosta – Engineering Department
The Valdosta City Council meets at 216 E. Central Avenue, Second Floor, 5:30 PM.
The second meeting is at Valdosta City Hall Annex, 300 North Lee Street, 6:30 PM.
In previous conversation I had asked when a public meeting with citizen input would occur; I take the 6:30 PM meeting to be the first such meeting.
Also, previous conversations with Lowndes County Emergency Management Director Ashley Tye and with Ms. Davenport indicate that the study USACE has completed so far is about flooding in Valdosta. A larger study is proposed, but will require funding and much cooperation with local governments and other entities throughout the local watersheds. This also matches what Lowndes County Chairman Bill Slaughter said yesterday morning at the Lowndes County Commission Work Session.

Of course, one city alone cannot fix watershed-wide problems.

Short Link:
I will try to be there for the public meeting. I believe that “cooperation” with local governments means that USACE wants to be paid by them.
