Ellaville Hike, Withlacoochee River, Drew Mansion 2026-02-07, Historic Hillman Bridge, Suwannacoochee Spring
Since the Drew Mansion Burned down at about 6:30 PM on December 11, 1970, there’s not much to see at that site other than some remains of the foundations. But we will be among the few to see those. Plus many other sites nearby on the WWALS Withlacoochee and Little River Water Trail map.
Here’s what the Drew Mansion looked like shortly before it burned:

Lyrics for “Ellaville,” by Bacon James:
Verse 1:
Up where the Swanee meets the Crooked River
There’s a growing industry
The governor’s mansion, mill and saw
Carved from trees alone
I’ve heard the springs there could be clean enough
To wash away the old me
They say a man could find a job
Maybe start a home….
