A brief paddle downstream to the biggest rapids in Florida, portage around, and paddle through the next rapids, with Practicing Geologist Dennis Price.

When: Gather 9 AM, launch 10 AM, end 3 PM, Saturday, September 17, 2022

Put In: Big Shoals Tract Launch. From White Springs, travel north on CR 135 to SE 94 Street (Godwin Bridge Road); turn right and follow road to Big Shoals.

Take Out: Suwannee River Wayside Park

Bring: the usual personal flotation device, boat, paddles, food, drinking water, warm clothes, and first aid kit. Also trash pickers and trash bags: every WWALS outing is also a cleanup. Mosquitoes can be bad at dusk so come prepared.

This outing includes the traditional WWALS shuttle. Everybody takes their boats to the put-in, most people drive to the take-out, and the drivers pile into one or two vehicles and go back to the put-in.

Update 2022-09-12: Right now the White Springs USGS Gauge reads 63.35 feet NAVD88.

While that’s still below the 65′ high water limit recommended at Big Shoals Boat Launch, nonetheless that launch is closed right now.

When we did this stretch on May 19, 2021, the gauge read 52.5′ and falling.
