Sabal Trail is asking for permits for its fracked methane pipeline from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection. One of them is for our Withlacoochee River.
ERP is Environmental Resource Permit, and here’s a permit found in ERP Exemption Permit applications, FL DEP Northeast Office:
Permit Application Under Review Site Name: SABAL TRAIL / WITHLACOOCHEE & SANTA FE RIVERS FDEP Office: NORTHEAST DISTRICT Florida County: SUWANNEE Permit Type: Water – ERP Exemption Permit Application Number: 328021-001 Applicant Name: MICHAEL FAUGHT Applicant Company: SEARCH, INC. Application Received: JUL-21-2014 Current Processing Status FDEP is currently reviewing this permit request.
Debra Johnson of Suwannee County, Florida, who found the above permit application also found this one below. Why does Sabal Trail want an injection well? Do they want to frack right there in Suwannee County, Florida?
Permit: Water – Injection Well Construction Permit Project Name: SUWANNEE RIVER WMD IW-1 Location id: 328011 Location name: SUWANNEE RIVER WATER MANAGEMENT DISTRICT SRWMD UIC County: Suwannee Application number: 328011-001
How does it get from the Withlacoochee River to the Santa Fe River without crossing the Suwannee River? It does cross the Suwannee, it just does it south of where the Withlacoochee joins it, and, probably not coincidentally, south of Suwannee River State Park.
For that matter, maybe there is some Sabal Trail permit application for the Suwannee River that we haven’t found yet. FL DEP’s online interface is perhaps slightly better than GA DNR’s; I still haven’t been able to find Sabal Trail’s air quality permit application for the Albany Compressor station that Greenlaw and Ted Turner’s Nonami Plantation have filed objections to. Both FL DEP and GA EPD make FERC’s online permitting interface look good.
