Valdosta City Schools and Scintilla Charter Academy are closed today, and Lowndes County Schools are open.
South Health District Lowndes County will open late at noon. Lowndes County State Court arraignments are cancelled for today.
Lanier County got more than 6 inches of rain, but we have not heard of any roads closed or other closures in Lakeland or Lanier County.
We have not (yet) gotten any confirmed reports of sewage spills.
If you do see or smell a spill, or a flooded road or other concern, please send it to us and report it on Valdosta Click-n-Fix.

There is severe flooding in several areas, including the Chadwyck Subdivision, which is on Chadwyck Drive north of Inner Perimeter, between Barack Obama and Jacyee Shack, uphill from Knights Creek. Please do not drive through a flooded road. It only takes a few inches of water to wash your car away.

Dear Valdosta City School Families,
At approximately 3:30 am this morning, the district was notified that flash flooding has made many of our roads in the city impassable. With the rain continuing to fall, local authorities have deemed that travel on these roads is too dangerous for school buses and other vehicles.
Due to our inability to safely transport students to school and the timing of this event, Valdosta City Schools will be closed Thursday, November 7, 2024. We apologize for this late notice as this is an unexpected emergency that is still developing. We will provide more details once we learn more. Your understanding is greatly appreciated.
Dear SCA Families,
We have been informed that flash flooding has rendered many roads in the city impassable including roads near the school. Local authorities have determined that attempting to travel on these roads is dangerous.
Given the safety concerns and the timing of this event, SCA will be closed today, Thursday, November 7, 2024. We apologize for the late notice, as this is an unexpected and ongoing emergency. As always, the safety of our SCA family is our top priority.
Thank you for your understanding!
This high rainfall was quite localized, according to CoCoRaHS.

The other three Valdosta locations reported between 9 and 10 inches, which is still plenty. Those other stations are near some of the flooded and road-closed locations.
The City of Valdosta lists more CoCoRaHS gauges than that.

But CoCoRaHS shows only these five reporting today in Lowndes County.
Here’s what they reported:

Table: CoCoRAHS Valdosta 2024-11-07
- 12.3 inches, GA-LW-27, WWTP, next to Spring Branch.

The Walking Withlacoochee River Chainsaw Cleanup scheduled for Saturday, November 16, may turn into a boating chainsaw cleanup. Or may have to cancel due to sewage, but by then probably any of that will have washed downstream.
