City of Valdosta Issues Road Closure Advisory for Numerous City Streets Due to Recent Storm Damage
The City of Valdosta advises all residents and commuters to exercise caution as emergency crews respond to storm damage across the area. Due to hazardous conditions resulting from recent severe weather, Country Club Drive is closed to all traffic between Williamsburg Drive and Ramblewood Circle until further notice. River Street near Saunders Park and Cypress Street near the intersection of Price Street are also closed.
City crews are currently assessing damage and working diligently to ensure safe and swift repairs to this areas. Travelers are encouraged to use alternative routes.
“Our top priority is the safety of our residents and travelers,” said City Engineer Benjamin O’Dowd. “We are working around the clock to assess and repair the damage caused by the storm. We appreciate the community’s patience and cooperation during this time.”
Residents are asked to respect barricades and signage, as these precautions are in place for public safety.
The City thanks all residents for their patience and cooperation as we work to restore full access and ensure the safety of our community. Updates on road conditions and closures will be provided as they become available.
Here is the WWALS spreadsheet of road closures of which we have heard.

The city streets named in this latest Valdosta press release are highlighted in orange: Country Club Drive, River Street, and Cypress Street.
For Country Club Drive, that is a smaller area than in
the previous city announcement.
River Street this time is closed, not just flooded.
Cypress Street this time is closed, not avoid maybe undermined.
The locations highlighted in yellow are from the previous announcement,
but were not mentioned in this new announcement.
We do not know whether that means they are reopened or not.
This was all apparently a long-distance of Hurricane Rafael in the Gulf.
Only Valdosta got this foot-deep rain; nowhere else in the Suwannee River Basin.
So far as we know, all local schools are open as usual this week.
Lanier County got more than 6 inches of rain, but we have not heard of any roads closed or other closures in Lakeland or Lanier County.
We may do a map later, also including sewage spill sites and flooded neighborhoods.
If you do see or smell a spill, or a flooded road or other concern, please send it to us and report it on Valdosta Click-n-Fix.
The Walking Withlacoochee River Chainsaw Cleanup scheduled for Saturday, November 16,
may turn into a boating chainsaw cleanup.
Or may have to cancel due to sewage, but by then probably any of that will have washed downstream.
