Madison Health Lifts Withlacoochee River Health Advisory 2024-10-20

Madison, Fla.— The Florida Department of Health in Madison County (DOH-Madison) is lifting the advisory for high bacterial levels in the Withlacoochee River.

Tests completed on Friday, November 15, 2024, and Monday, November 18, 2024, indicate that the water quality at the Withlacoochee River show an acceptable level of Enterococcus bacteria established by state guidelines. Test results are available at FloridaDEP.gov/dear/watershed-monitoring-section/content/suwannee-river-basin-sampling-locations.

Actually, so far the most recent results at the above location are from April.

Valdosta’s Nov 2024 Overflow Testing Results stop with Sunday, since that was seven days, which is how long they are required to sample daily. Nevermind the Sunday E. coli result for Hightower Creek at St. Augustine Road was 26,600, more than 26 times the 1,000 alert limit, and 2,450 for Sugar Creek at Gornto Road, 2.45 times the alert limit..
