I went to thank the Lanier County Commission for letting WWALS use the boats at Banks Lake Outdoors in our Full Moon Paddles. WWALS Outings Committee Co-Chairs Kim Tanner and Janet Martin are getting good use out of those boats.

And to ask if they mind if we put a small shed inside the outdoor fence for the paddles and PFDs so they don’t get left out in the rain and the sun. They said yes, they would accept that free gift.

This is what Janet suggests we get:

If you have one you want to donate, or if you know someplace local we can source one, please let us know.

Also, Chairman Alex Lee mentioned that he thought their cooperation with WWALS on the Alapaha River Water Trail (ARWT) and those paddles had gotten them points on their Comprehensive Plan. That’s a good thing.

For example, in the description of Agricultural/Forestry Character Areas:

  • Creating a Network of Greenways and Trails

Landscaping and buffer requirements and guidelines: Require planting areas to mask unattractive land use or provide a visual and sound barrier between incompatible adjacent uses, increase aesthetic values, and protect water and quality of rivers and streams, the Alapaha Water Trail and Blue Ways. Communities should consider adopting a tree protection ordinance in addition to landscaping and buffer regulations. Inappropriate landscaping can degrade the natural environment’s quality by requiring excess water and pesticides or creating unnecessary conflicts with sewers, sidewalks, and vehicle access. It is crucial to promote environmentally sound landscaping, including the use of low-maintenance, drought-resistant, and native or non -invasive plants, and to ensure that the right tree is planted in the right place.

Before the meeting, County Coordinator Neil Ginty said they were buying two more kayaks for Banks Lake. I told him that was great, since we had requests for about two more than were there on the last two full moons. Even though both of those got rained out.
