A sinkhole opened in U.S. 90 in the middle of Live Oak, Florida, yesterday. FDOT says it’s fixed since yesterday evening.
But chronic overpumping of groundwater produces such cavities, and increasintly big rains wash them open.

Live Oak Police Department yesterday reported with a video of the sinkhole opening:

Eastbound U.S. 90 near Dowling Avenue will be temporarily closed due to a sink hole. Please use caution and avoid this route if possible. Road Department and construction crews have been notified.

“…Officials say the road was closed late Monday afternoon. FDOT crews say the roadway is now back open after repairs were made.”
