“The positive side is they seem to be getting smaller, so that is good,” executive director of [WWALS Watershed Coalition] John Quarterman said. “Valdosta utilities fixed it pretty quick and they put out a press release as well, in less than 24 hours, so that is good. Of course, nobody is going to be happy until there are no more sewage spills.”

The current WCTV report links to an older one, WCTV Staff, WCTV, August 24, 2025, City of Valdosta reports sewer overflow spilling into Sugar Creek on Saturday: As of Sunday morning, the city said the manhole is still overflowing. That story drew entirely from the city of Valdosta’s initial press release, which is why got the creek wrong: it was One Mile Branch, which flows into Sugar Creek.

That spill stopped the next day.

At the end of August, Valdosta replaced one of those problem Wainwright Drive manholes.

And by October, Valdosta Utilities also replaced the other manhole. Both manholes are higher than the old ones.
