This is part 2 of the Langdale Park Chainsaw Cleanup of Sunday, March 29, 2026.
Part 1 was downstream.
Here we go upstream, with Brianna Schawalder of Trails4Valdosta in her canoe, helping pull limbs aside and photographing, and Russell Hassenstab of Kona Ice paddling the Suwannee Riverkeeper Old Town Canoe, while Suwannee Riverkeeper John S. Quarterman chainsaws.
Chainsaw Cleanup, Withlacoochee River, Upstream from Langdale Park BR, Towards US 41 Bridge, Sunday, March 29, 2026
Here are some video snippets.
Thanks to Valdosta-Lowndes County Parks and Recreation Authority (VLPRA) for support for all this. Thanks to Wild Green Future for the grant that paid for the 24-inch Husqvarna Rancher chainsaw.
Thanks to Cindy Vedas for staffing a WWALS information table at Langdale Park Boat Ramp.
Phil Hubbard couldn’t come because he had the flu.
Back on August 25, 2024, we worked upstream a bit.
Movie: We made a gap in the first upstream deadfall, but just above it is an even bigger one, 2024-08-25, 11:16:31, (37M) –jsq for WWALS 30.8905793, -83.3213432
But our primary goal that day was downstream, so we did not continue past the first big upstream deadfall.
But on this Sunday, our primary goal was upstream, and we got through many other deadfalls, to within sight of the US 41 Bridge.
As Brianna Schawalder says, let’s make 2026 the Year of Outdoor Recreation in Lowndes County.
