It was running a steady stream even though the Withlacoochee River was very low, when we set out to paddle from Knights Ferry Boat Ramp to Clyattville-Nankin Boat Ramp on Saturday, November 22, 2025.

Where does this little creek by Knights Ferry Boat Ramp come from? Is it from a spring?

Maybe it comes from a pond north of Knights Ferry Road?

We picked these mattresses out of the creek where it runs by the parking lot.

On the Lowndes County Tax Assessors Map, if you follow the light-colored trees north, west, north, east, and east, it looks like the creek might come out of a pond that you can see north of the intersection of Rowland Road with Knights Ferry Road. If you go backwards in time on Google Earth Pro, that pond almost always has water, even when everything else is dry. Is it a spring?

Or does the pond’s water come from farther south and then north from that larger pond on the other side of Knights Ferry Road? If so, the water might be a result of agricultural irrigation from wells.

On this WWALS map of the Withlacoochee and Little River Water Trail (WLRWT), you can see another creek farther upstream into the Withlacoochee River.

The first pond mentioned above might actually drain into that. It’s hard to say.

Most of this land, except where you can see small lots on the Tax Assessors Map, is owned by The Langdale Company in its Spain Ferry Tract. I’ll ask them if they know anything about this creek.
