WWALS Outings

Boat Rental

There are many outfitters who are happy to rent you a boat and deliver you to your paddle.

For WWALS some outings, WWALS offers free boat rental. (Mostly the Full Moon paddles at Banks Lake, courtesy of the Lakeland-Lanier Chamber of Commerce and Banks Lake Outdoors.) Look at the announcement of such an outing for how to get eventbrite tickets for boat reservations. Water Quality

Water Levels

If you want to see water levels throughout the Suwannee River Basin, for example after a hurricane, there are at least three ways:

  1. NOAA’s National Water Prediction Service: color-coded interactive maps
Easiest to find an access point that is not flooding and not too low.
  2. SRWMD River Levels: numeric water levels in a table
    Most condensed on one page.
  3. WWALS Water Levels: each public access point, with high and low water recommendations, and a link to the WWALS Water Level gauge entry
If you already have a pretty good idea of where you want to go.

Chainsaw Cleanups

A WWALS specialty is chainsaw cleanups: clearing dead trees from across rivers and creeks, with chainsaws in boats. See separate web page:
https://wwals.net/outings/chainsaw-cleanups/

Enable location (GPS) on your phone

If you enable location services for your phone camera, it will record GPS for each picture.

Event Waiver (sign-in sheet)

At each outing each participant must sign an event waiver (sign-in sheet) so our WWALS insurance will apply.

If you want to see it in advance, follow this link.

The leader of that outing will have a sign-in sheet including the waiver. There’s also a pet waiver on the back.

The leader should also have copies of the WWALS FAQ and membership form.

How to find upcoming paddle outings and other events

Try paddles, and water trails

If you’re new to the Suwannee River Basin and want to try a few paddles with your own small group, see Ideas for short paddles. We do not recommend going alone, and we do recommend paddling with WWALS.

WWALS Webinars

WWALS Webinars is a monthly series of webinars via zoom about topics of interest to the Suwannee River Basin and the work of WWALS Watershed Coalition, Inc. (WWALS) and Suwannee Riverkeeper.

They are usually on the second or third Thursday of the month, from noon to 1PM. After a brief introduction, the speaker has about 45 minutes, with the remaining time for questions and answers and discussion.

They are recorded, so if you miss one, you can see it later on YouTube. Here’s a WWALS video playlist:
