Three Suwannee River paddle races starting 2017-10-14

On October 14, 2017 we recommend you join WWALS on the Withlacoochee River from Nankin Boat Ramp to Madison Highway, stopping at McIntyre Spring and Arnold Springs, with many shoals.

But if you have a mind to race that day instead, here are three opportunities for you:

  1. Fargo to White Springs,
  2. the entire length of the Suwannee River
  3. from Suwannee River State Park to Manatee Springs State Park

Rivers Alive Cleanup and Paddle Outing, Alapaha River 2017-09-10

Update 2017-09-25: Rescheduled for October 1, 2017.

Update 2017-09-08: Canceled due to Hurricane Irma.

A combination Rivers Alive and Waterkeeper Alliance Cleanup on the enchanting Alapaha River at Pafford Landing, Lakeland, Georgia, plus optional upstream and back paddle afterwards.

When: 2PM, Sunday, September 10, 2017

Where: Pafford’s Landing, MILE 71.73, east of Lakeland, south side of GA 122, into the woods, west side of Alapaha River, Lanier County, Georgia.

Cleanup: Cleanup materials will be provided, but if you’ve got a trash picker, bring it along.

Paddle: You do not have to bring a boat, and you do not have to paddle. If you do paddle, bring the usual personal flotation device, water, snacks, etc.

Drowning at Pafford’s Landing on the Alapaha River 2016-05-07

One version of the Saturday drowning on the Alapaha River near Lakeland is being carried all over the country, Lanier Parks, Inc. Parcel 030 0038B from Richmond to Texas, and there is another version.

Terry Richards, valdosta Daily Times, 9 May 2016, UPDATE: Father dies saving Lanier child from drowning,

A small child wandered away from a group of adults and into the Alapaha River at Pafford’s Landing, he said. When the father noticed what had happened he jumped in, swam to his daughter who was struggling to keep her head above water and held her up until someone took her from him, Norton said. The father never resurfaced.
