2nd Annual Flatlander Canoe and Kayak Race.

The 2nd Annual Flatlanders Canoe and Kayak Race will be held at Lake Irma in Lakeland on Sunday, October 5, starting at 2:30 p.m.

There is no charge to participate in this event, and it will again feature the popular “If It Floats, It’s a Boat” race.

Rules for the canoe and kayak races include:

  • Canoes will contain two (2) paddlers and Kayaks will be single (1) or tandem (2) paddlers.
  • Participants in Single Kayaks must be at least 10 years old.
  • Each participant must provide and wear appropriate PFD.
  • Canoes and Kayaks will be available at the event, or participants may bring their own.
  • Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Prizes will go to the fastest boat in each category.
  • Judges decisions will be final. Rules for the “If It Floats, It’s a Boat” race include:
  • Participants must provide and wear appropriate PFD.
  • No actual boats allowed.
  • Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
  • Entries must be powered manually. No motors allowed.
  • Entries will be broken down into two categories – Paddled and mechanilly operated.
  • Any sunken boats must be removed from the water at the boat owner’s expense.
