A public hearing already happened last week, but you can still send comments until next Friday, June 24th 2016, about Madison Blue Spring State Park. Maybe you’d like to comment on the specific improvements they plan, or maybe something about Nestle or maybe how close Sabal Trail wants to come with its fracked methane pipeline.
That’s the deadline in the Green Publishing notice, but the Public Comment Form says Thursday June 23rd, so to be safe, get your comments in by next Thursday.
The Green Publishing notice remarks:
Last year, Madison Blue Springs was crowned the best swimming hole in the United States by USA Today. Because of this, there is no doubt that traffic has increased at Madison Blue Springs and visitors from far and wide, along with loyal Madison County citizens, have come to enjoy all that Madison Blue Springs has to offer as summer approaches.
Because Madison Blue Springs has received increased popularity, there have been some proposed improvements by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). DEP’s Florida Park Service is in the process of creating the Unit Management Plan for Madison Blue Springs State Park.
Here’s what the comment form lists as planned, but it doesn’t limit what you can comment on.
Improvements
The following improvements are proposed for the updated Madison Blue Spring State Park management plan:
- Relocate/reroute park entrance
- Remove restroom from entrance and reconstruct in upland picnic area
- Construct four new pavilions in picnic area
- Construct canoe/kayak launch
- Improve/interpret nature trail;
- Stabilize the spring access path around the basin for safety and erosion control
- Add ranger residence and relocate existing support facilities to upland
