Again rescheduled: Suwannee River Chainsaw Cleanup 2023-06-10

Update 2023-06-15: Pictures: Suwannee River Chainsaw Cleanup, Three Steps Landing to Fargo, GA 2023-06-10.

The deadfalls are still four feet underwater, with more rain coming, so we’re rescheduling again, this time to Saturday, June 10th, in hopes that summer evapotranspiration will keep the Suwannee River lower.

You do not have to use a saw to join us on the last five Suwannee River miles down to Fargo as we clear three or four more deadfalls.

Thanks to Adam Schock of the Conservation Fund for permission to use Three Steps Landing. That will make this one a lot easier than last time.

When: Gather 10 AM, launch 11 AM, end 4 PM, Satuday, June 10, 2023

Put In: Three Steps Landing. Meet at Fargo Ramp and we’ll sort out the shuttle.

Take Out: Fargo Ramp, Half a mile southeast of Fargo on US 441, the boat ramp is on the northeast side of US 441 and on the west (right bank) of the Suwannee River, in Clinch County, Georgia. Continue reading →

Early takeout for Mayor and Chairman’s Paddle: DeLoach Private Boat Ramp

Update 2023-03-03: Clean Rivers 2023-03-02.

For those who want to take out early from the Mayor and Chairman’s Paddle tomorrow, thanks to Paul Deloach we have access to his private boat ramp, after 2.6 river miles. That’s little more than an hour paddling.

As you can see, there’s plenty of parking.

So come on down to Troupville Boat Ramp as early as 8 AM, deposit your boat, or get one from State Line River Outfitters, drive to this takeout or to Spook Bridge, and the Boys & Girls Club will shuttle you back to Troupeville Boat Ramp to paddle. Don’t worry about how to drive to the takeouts: we’ll explain that tomorrow morning, and there will be convoys.

Will Hart of State Line River Outfitters has agreed to supply boats. Will will be out of town, but Bird Chamberlain will bring a couple of canoes and half a dozen kayaks, in addition to the WWALS canoes.

We even have a volunteer or two to paddle people in a canoe who are too young or whatever to paddle themselves.

Good water levels for Mayor and Chairman’s Paddle 2023-02-22

Water levels are coming down good for a week from Saturday, for the Fourth Annual Mayor and Chairman’s Paddle.

Today the Quitman Gauge at US 84 is about eight feet above the level of the 2022 Mayor and Chairman’s Paddle. It looks like it will still be a couple feet above come this year’s paddle day. So easy paddling!

The Mayor and Chairman’s Paddle is a fundraiser for WWALS, so tickets are $30 per boat, online or at the event.
