WWALS paddled from Troupville Boat Ramp to Spook Bridge (thanks to The Langdale Company for access to take out there) on February 3, 2019. That’s the path planned for Paddle Georgia Day 1, coming up two weeks from now.
We passed the famous Mayor John Gayle Withlacoochee Wastewater Treatment Plant Outfall:
Yes, the Mayor of Valdosta knows I call it that. He likes that name.
Thanks also to The Langdale Company for land access to this spot:
Access for Paddle Georgia to put a porta-potty. Better than 300 people using the woods, eh?
It was cold, and our numbers were small, but we had families of paddlers.
Surprisingly little trash was found in the river; this was the worst spot.
Well, the worst spot for trash. The worst spot is where the exotic invasive Sabal Trail high-pressure fracked methane pipeline gouges under the river.
Nonetheless, much of the trip looked like this, wild, past the biggest city in the Suwannee River Basin.
Many more pictures are on the WWALS website.
Apologies for the blurry pictures; I have since replaced my phone case. Later I will post sharper pictures by Gretchen.
Meanwhile, today’s pictures have locations attached. See the google map.
Thanks to Shirley Kokidko for organizing this outing.
