Cross the Suwannee River: Sabal Trail permit application with FL-DEP

After an application for an exemption for the Withlacoochee River and the Santa Fe River, here’s Sabal Trail’s application to drill under the Suwannee River in between. Should we also expect an “HDD CROSSING” permit application for the Withlacoochee and Suwannee Rivers? And watch out, The Villages in Sumter County, Florida! Sabal Trail has applied for a permit in your county, too.

Debra Johnson found that one.

While looking for it in FL-DEP’s search interface, I also found this one for Sumter County, Florida, where overpumping from the karst limestone substrate has already yielded a sinkhole that ate an apartment building, less than 20 miles from the proposed pipeline path. Do we want buildings sinking where the pipeline would go there or elsewhere in Florida or Georgia?
