Sullivan Slough and Blue Sink by Amanda Davis 2022-01-18

Thanks, Amanda Davis, for these pictures of Sullivan Slough and Sullivan Blue Sink.

Is it a sink or a spring? Probably a bit of each: a karst window, where the aquifer is exposed. So at high river water levels, the Withlacoochee River probably runs into it. At low river levels, water probably flows into the river.

Here’s where it ends up.

It gets there through this distributary.

It runs for about 0.62 miles through the woods.

Here we go into the Withlacoochee River.

So is it actually a sink or a spring?

Here’s a rough map of Sullivan Slough as pointed out by Tom Baird.

And here’s a context map, showing it half way between Florida Campsites Ramp and Madison Blue Spring.

Surface water constantly interchanges with groundwater, all the way down to the Floridan Aquifer.
