What Georgia streams are not impaired?
Georgia impaired waters, map
Map: GECAP.
Very few, apparently.
The Georgia Environmental Protection Division (GA-EPD) has drafted the “Georgia 2020 305(b)/303(d) draft list of waters was prepared in accordance with Sections 305(b) and 303(d) of the Federal Clean Water Act and guidance from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.”
There’s an online public meeting 1PM, Wednesday, May 20, 2020 for questions and comments.
Comments may also be emailed on or before 4:30 PM June 4, 2020, to EPD.Comments@dnr.ga.gov. “If you choose to e-mail your comments, please be sure to include the words “305b/303d List” somewhere in the subject line to help ensure that your comments will be forwarded to the correct staff.”
See also PDF of the Public Notice.
Much more information is available on GA-EPD’s Water Quality in Georgia web page, including a spreadsheet of the 2020 draft list.
Suwannee Basin impaired waters, map by GECAP.
Below are the waterbodies listed for the Suwannee River Basin. Notice even Reed Bingham State Park Lake has some issues for fishing.
The Withlacoochee River from Okapilco Creek to the state line is listed as Not Supporting its designated use because of mercury. As we have learned in recent months, that stretch often is also not supporting because of E. coli.
