Valdosta Block Club added to Pepsi sign at Barack Obama and Ricardo 2022-08-28

Update 2022-12-14: Pictures: Barack Obama Blvd. @ Ricardo St. 2022-12-01.

“In Conjunction With Valdosta Block Club” has been pasted onto the Pepsi Adopt-A-Spot sign. Thanks to whoever did that.

In our previous episode, I congratulated the City of Valdosta for replacing the old Pepsi Adopt-A-Spot sign with a new one at Barack Obama Blvd. and Ricardo Avenue.

I also mentioned that the new one didn’t mention the late City Council member James Wright’s group Valdosta Block Club.

Today WWALS member Bobby McKenzie reports that:

The decal has been added after the fact that says “In conjunction with Valdosta Block Club”.

I walked up to the board. The “in conjunction with” is a definite raised sticker. The whole rest of the sign was uniformly printed.

Looks good, though. Thanks to whichever mysterious city department did this.

Maybe somebody in the Valdosta City government read the WWALS blog. Or maybe Brad Pigford of Pepsi did.

Nobody contacted me to thank WWALS for pointing out the omission. But nevermind that: you’re welcome.

Only one small nit: I can’t find any evidence that Valdosta Block Club still exists. If somebody knows, please let me and our readers know.

I also have some recent pictures of the two acres behind that sign. You may recall that they were full of trash, which in heavy rains washes through a culvert under Barack Obama Blvd. and down a drainage ditch into One Mile Branch, Sugar Creek, and the Withlacoochee River. Stay tuned for an update.
