Come on down and hear about the Wild & Scenic Film Festival coming up this Thursday, May 31, at Mathis Auditorium in Valdosta.

Send in your song for the Suwannee Riverkeeper Songwriting Contest, deadline Friday June 1, or get a ticket to listen to the contest, Saturday, June 23, at The Salty Snapper, Valdosta, GA.

We will also have the froggy toss game (can’t believe Gretchen forgot that yesterday), kayak raffle tickets, information about WWALS outings, and of course advocacy.

I’ll also be at the Florida Folk Festival today, Saturday, May 26, 2018, and Gretchen will be there tomorrow.

Straws: we will have good ones at Wild & Scenic Film Festival 2018-05-31

You will remember the sea turtle, in this short film by Linda Booker that shows why we need to get rid of plastic straws, at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival, this Thursday, May 31, at Mathis Auditorium, Valdosta, GA.

Used once and tossed, billions of plastic straws wind up in landfills and streets, finding their way to oceans. Actor/Director Tim Robbins narrates the history and story of STRAWS, and marine researchers, citizen activists, and business owners discuss how it’s possible to make a sea of change, one straw at a time.

Gretchen has found good non-plastic straws at the event. We’ll have them at the event, and she can tell you where to get them.

WWALS at Wanee by NailTravels

Almost like being there, and it mentions WWALS! Jason Nail, NailTravels, 26 April 2018, Wanee Festival ’18: It’s Time To Panic,

As we move ever close to the environmental consciousness of festivals like Telluride and Rockygrass, we’re starting to see more advocacy groups devoting their time to Wanee. WWALS is a nonprofit educational corporation advocating for watershed conservation and stewardship of the Withlacoochee, Willacoochee, Alapaha, Little and Suwannee Rivers. Mad props to WWALS Watershed Coalition, Inc. for their work with the Alapaha River Water Trail and the First Annual Suwannee Riverkeeper Songwriting Contest. These are perfect reasons to get involved. Visit their website for upcoming outings and events or email them at wwalswatershed@gmail.com and contact@suwanneeriverkeeper.org.

Dragging 235 lbs Uphill Both Ways @ Wild & Scenic Film Fest 2018-05-31

See how one mom engages her children in outdoor activities in “Dragging 235 lbs uphill both ways”.

The next generation is becoming increasingly plugged in to electronics and out of touch with the outdoors. This will have enormous effects on future conservationism. A mother of four kids decides to turn off the screens and make a change. Though challenging, her kids go from fearing and ignoring nature to understanding and loving it.

This short film will be one of many shown at the Wild & Scenic Film Festival:
