Update 2016-04-28: The ordinance.
Rachel Walsh reports from the meeting that the fracking ordinance passed the Madison BOCC.
The
agenda item for tonight:
New Business 1. 6:00 p.m. Public Hearing For Possible Enactment of Ordinance Prohibiting Fracking in Madison County.
It’s been discussed in several previous meetings, with a hearing two weeks ago, reported by Morgan Norwood and Megan Vaughn, WTXL, 13 April 2016, Madison County Residents Voice Opinions in Fracking Debate,
MADISON, FL (WTXL)—The fallout over fracking in the area continues, this time in Madison County where residents gathered at the courthouse annex Wednesday to speak out on an anti-fracking measure.
At the heart of the debate is the fear that the chemicals used to release natural gas from the earth will have negative ramifications for the environment.
Apparently the Madison Board of County Commissioners followed up on their resolution against fracking of 11 March 2016. Hamilton County passed a resolution against fracking 5 March 20156, and Suwannee County 16 February 2016.
Congratulations to Madison County in going the next step and passing an ordinance, which is a law.
