Sabal Trail requests variance to Colquitt County, GA creek 2016-10-17

Monday Sabal Trail asked FERC to add a contractor yard in Colquitt County, and to change routing under a small stream. No rush: Sabal Trail wants approval by tomorrow, Thursday, October 20th 2016. Presumably because they’re racing hell-for-leather to meet their May 2017 in-service drop-dead date, after which (according to FPL’s RFP) they could forfeit a $200 million bond or lose the contract.

Here, courtesy of Lowndes Area Knowledge Exchange (LAKE), are Sabal Trail’s October 17th 2016 maps of that stream, plus Sabal Trail’s April 2016 maps of where it wants to cross the stream it flows into, Hog Creek and that stream’s downstream Okapilco Creek.

We’ve already seen where Sabal Trail is drilling under the Withlacoochee River between Valdosta and Quitman, Georgia and under the Suwannee River in Suwannee River State Park. Plus there’s an encampment of water protectors in Suwannee County.

Tributary of Hog Creek

Sabal Trail proposes to adjust its route under Plymel Road a bit west of Tallokas Road towards Autreyville in Colquitt County, GA, at 31.070889, -83.731766. This appears to be to make it go under the road bridge.

Hog Creek

Sabal Trail apparently crosses Hog Creek just south of Crosby Road without even bothering to mention that on its April map (although Sabal Trail does include Hog Creek in its Table 2.3-3 (Revised September 19, 2016): Waterbodies Crossed by the Sabal Trail Project):

Okapilco Creek

And here’s where Sabal Trail plows through Okapilco Creek in Brooks County on Coffee Road between Morven and Barwick, at 30.917334, -83.589044. This also seems to go under a road bridge.

Withlacoochee River

We’ve already seen where Sabal Trail is drilling under the Withlacoochee River between Valdosta and Quitman, GA.

Suwannee River

And we’ve already seen where Sabal Trail is drilling under the Suwanee River from Hamilton County to Suwannee County, Florida.

Encampment in Suwannee County

And remember there’s an encampment of water protecters in Suwannee County at the corner of 197th Place And 199th Place, Live Oak, FL, 30.3535843, -83.1567459. That’s not a WWALS event or project, but I went and observed and saw peaceful nonviolent water protectors.
