LIVE OAK, Fla. — An environmental group opposing a natural gas pipeline project plans to host a gathering of similarly minded organizations Thursday.
WWALS Watershed Coalition will hold the meeting 7 p.m. at the Women’s Club of Live Oak 1308 11th St. SW, said John Quarterman of WWALS.
Houston-based Spectra Energy Corp. has reported the pipeline will extend 465 miles from Anniston, Ala., to Orlando, Fla. The pipeline will pass through Clyattville.
WWALS has been fighting the pipeline project since 2013, Quarterman said.
The pipeline would cross both the Withlacoochee River in Lowndes County and the Santa Fe River in Florida. WWALS has held protest events in the past claiming environmental damage of the Withalcoochee.
Among the groups expected to attend are Sierra Club Florida, Sacred Water Camp on the Suwannee River, Water is Life Camp on the Santa Fe River and Our Santa Fe River, Quarterman said.
Specrtra says construction of the pipeline is expected to be finished in spring.
Sabal Trail can’t seem to make up its mind when it thinks it will finish: Spring, June, August, or May 2017, the original in-service date. How about never?
More about that in my op-ed in last Sunday’s VDT.
Don’t forget there are many other things going on this weekend, including paddling from Suwannee Campsites to State Park against Sabal Trail 2016-01-14.
Come to Live Oak tonight and hear about all of the events!
