Camelot Crossing subdivision water issues @ Lowndes County Commission 2026-06-23

Lowndes County Commissioners had little discussion about water issues for the Camelot Crossing subdivision, considering the site has at least wetlands and probably sinkholes on it, and next to it, and is located in an aquifer recharge zone.

They also never satisfied a requirement county staff noted for the subdivision to have two means of ingress and egress.

Here’s a walk through the rezoning and related processes in Lowndes County for the Camelot Crossing subdivision.

The agenda sheet, written by county staff, notes, “The property is within a medium groundwater recharge area, and contains large areas of wetlands, which act as natural dividers between the proposed zoning districts.” Continue reading →

Massive citizen opposition to development foothold in agricultural and forestry area @ GLPC 2022-12-08

Update 2023-01-29: Lowndes County nixes planned Dollar General –VDT 2023-01-26.

Update 2022-12-09: Packet: Dollar General may be tabled @ LCC 2022-12-12. Go ahead and ask them to deny it.

We don’t need more clearcutting, impervious surface, petroleum runoff, and trash, uphill from the Withlacoochee River, setting a precedent for further sprawl into a forestry and agricultural area, costing the county money, and everybody downstream as well.

This Lowndes County, Georgia, rezoning decision affects the entire county and everybody downstream all the way into Florida, for drinking water, flood prevention, wildlife, river water quality, and quality of life.

Hotchkiss Road Landing, Old State Road, and Naylor Boat Ramp

Common question: isn’t Hotchkiss closed? Answer: the old Hotchkiss Landing in Lowndes County is closed, private, and don’t go there! Caution! But Hotchkiss Road Landing in Lanier County is open as always, do go there to get to the Alapaha River. Boat landing And there’s a new park at US 84, with a Naylor Boat Ramp being built by Lowndes County, as urged by WWALS.

Previously there was some discussion of using a different name for Hotchkiss Road Landing in the Alapaha River Water Trail, but then nobody would know what we were referring to, since that’s what it’s always been called, down at the end of Hotchkiss Road off of US 84.
