An easy downstream paddle on the lazy Little River, convenient to I-75.

Where: GA 122 Little River, MILE 24.5, Five miles west of Hahira (I-75 exit 29), 3.4 miles east of Barney, south side of GA 122, east side of river, Lowndes County

Take out: Lawson Mill Pond Road, MILE 20.25, Five miles east of Morven on Lawson Mill Pond Road, Five miles west of Hahira (I-75 exit 29) on Morven Road, south side of Lawson Pond Road, west side of river, Brooks County

Distance: About 4 1/4 miles

Duration: About two and a half hours

Shuttle: Less than four miles each way, so less than 30 minutes

End time: Around 1PM

Cleanup at GA 135 south of Willacoochee For anyone who likes to paddle the pristine waters of our region’s lovely Alapaha River, I’d like to encourage you to come out for an hour this coming Saturday and help make a noticeable difference by picking up trash along the bank at one of the put in sites for the Alapaha River Water Trail. 9 a.m. at the Hwy 135 bridge south of Willacoochee.

A paddle so brief we went past and had to float back WWALS at the proposed Sabal Trail pipeline crossing 30.7955398, -83.4526749 down the Withlacoochee River to where the Sabal Trail pipeline proposes to cross.

Winnie Wright of WCTV interviewed us at the US 84 bridge median while we were preparing to put in; don’t know if it aired.

Rained out: Banks Lake Outing cancelled 2015-08-29

Expedition leader Chris Mericle conferred with John at Banks Lake Outdoors, Intellicast: South Georgia and they agree nobody wants boaters on Banks Lake in a thunderstorm, so tonight’s outing is cancelled. You probably figured that out already anyway, what with rain for an hour or more now and a 70% chance of thundersshowers at 7PM.

Pictures and videos from Alapaha Rise, Sabal Trail pipeline, Five Holes, and Alapaha and Withlacoochee Confluences on the Suwannee River 2015-08-15

From Douglas and Tifton, Georgia through Florida to South America and South Africa, WWALS banner at Five Holes 30.4181843, -83.1553879 they ate bon-bons and floated and climbed to see springs, caves at Five Holes, and said what they thought about the Sabal Trail pipeline proposing to gouge across the Suwannee River, on the WWALS Outing Saturday August 15th 2015.

Update 2018-02-12: 5 Holes (also known as Hamilton Seven Sisters Spring) is on Suwannee River State Park (SRSP) land, and is normally closed to the public. We did have permission for this outing, thanks to Park Manager Craig Liney, as well as for the later Five Holes Cleanup and Site Exploration.
