Received Friday:
Today Sabal Trail workers were clearing underbrush and small trees on the bank of the Suwannee River where the pipeline is installed under the river to install a sign. I could not see what the sign said, the sign was on the ground with the words facing down.
Correct me if I am wrong, but didn’t STT say Continue reading
Following up on Cody Suggs’ pictures of pipeline dug up at Pilgrim’s Pride, I found a flock of glow-shirts inspecting a fancy new pipeline sign. Remember, where Sabal Trail goes through Pilgrim’s Pride property is right next to at least two large sinkholes and on top of the world-famous miles-long Falmouth Cathedral Cave System that feeds the Floridan Aquifer from which we all drink. They were also across US 90 and the railroad, and then at the Suwannee River HDD site in Suwannee County, Florida. Here are many pictures, a video playlist, and a Google Map.
Pipe
apparently not connected at Suwannee County HDD (only
two caterpillars there, and
many odd markings on pipe),
pipe
apparently already buried at Hamilton County HDD,
paddling
on the Suwannee River in between, and
a guard at Sabal Trail’s CR 141 access even after dark, Sunday February 12, 2017 to show a visiting videographer.
For where these pictures were taken, see the Google map.

The day of action against Sabal Trail at the Suwannee River
saw hundreds turn out on land, water, and in the air and
got a lot of press, but Sabal Trail continued to pound pipe
into the ground in Hamilton County, Florida, going under Suwannee River State Park (SRSP) and the Suwannee River.
On the WWALS website are photographs by Beth Gammie for WWALS from a Southwings flight piloted by Roy Zimmer, navigated by Can Denizman, January 14, 2017. You may reuse these pictures provided you cite the source: Beth Gammie for WWALS Watershed Coalition.
For where they were taken, see the WWALS Google Map.
Lynn Buchanan posted a facebook video taken from the woods of Suwannee River State Park.
By water, land, and air hundreds gathered Saturday to protect the Suwannee River
from the invading Sabal Trail fracked methane pipeline.
23 people signed in at the WWALS paddle on the Suwannee River.
You’ll see more pictures from others later, including from
the Southwings flight for WWALS, and from the protest by others on land.
Meanwhile, here are a few pictures,
a few videos,
a
google map,
plus
people stuck outside Suwannee River State Park as reporters drove in,
and a few pictures of
red pipe going into the ground in Hamilton County, plus 15 state trooper cars.
All the news stories I’ve seen thus far are also linked in,
plus pictures of the two TV reporters arriving.
Thanks to the 23 paddlers, 5 from Georgia (1 from Hahira, 1 from Valdosta, 1 from Warner Robins, 2 from Pine Mountain)
and 18 from Florida (2 from Jacksonville,
1 from Tallahassee,
2 from White Springs,
1 from Live Oak,
4 from Fort White,
4 from Alachua,
2 from Gainesville,
2 from Micanopy).
That’s a range of more than 300 miles, along most of the Sabal Trail pipeline path and elsewhere.

Suwannee RIVERKEEPER® invites you on
a brief paddle down the Suwannee River from the CR 141 ramp to the Sabal Trail pipeline path, and onwards to Suwannee River State Park (SRSP) Ramp,
preceded by speakers at SRSP.
The last time we paddled this route
we were live on the WCTV 6 o’clock news.
Like that time, this is a completely legal nonviolent protest event
against the unnecessary, destructive, and hazardous Sabal Trail fracked methane pipeline,
right now drilling under the Suwannee River.
Bring the usual personal flotation device, boat paddles, food, drinking water, warm clothes, and first aid kit. With bon-bons, of course.
Simultaneously another event NOT organized by WWALS is taking place: Mass Civil Disobedience to Stop the Suwannee River Crossing. If you want to do anything that might not be legal, go to that other, non-WWALS event.
To hear directly from the organizers of the various events, come to Rivers against Sabal Trail in Live Oak 7PM Jan 12 2017 —Suwannee RIVERKEEPER®
The January 14th WWALS Suwannee River paddle is resolutely legal, on the navigable waters of the Outstanding Florida Water, the Suwannee River, or on its banks below the high water mark. There is no perfect guarantee, but this WWALS outing is about as safe legally as you can get.
When: Saturday, January 14th, 2017
10:30 AM deposit boats at CR 141 Ramp (the green map marker). The boats will be watched by a WWALS volunteer.
Shuttle to SRSP by 11AM for speakers there (the blue map marker).
Noon shuttle back to CR 141 Ramp to be on the water by 12:30 PM
to get to the pipeline crossing by 1PM (the red map marker).
Afternoon take out at SRSP and shuttle those who need it back to CR 141 Ramp.

It seems to miss one of the main points, but thanks to Mary G. Morris, CEO, VA529, for a thoughtful reply to the WWALS request to divest from Spectra Energy.
It seems to me that investing in a highly risky pipeline company such as
Spectra Energy would be “contrary to [VA529’s] overall investment goals and mission”, at least if those goals include reliable investments for college,
and not stranded investments.
It might be worth looking into the Parnassus Core Equity Fund she mentions. Perhaps college savers who want reliable investments would want to consider moving their investments there.
Suwannee Riverkeeper may continue correspondence with VA529.
Meanwhile, VA529 has a handy VA529 contact form or you can call or write: Continue reading
Update 2016-12-08: Letter sent to VA529 board: PDF.
Do the parents and grandparents who bought Virginia529 funds as safe investments for future college know VA529 is the biggest mutual fund investor in risky investments Spectra Energy of Sabal Trail and Enbridge of the Dakota Access Pipeline? Maybe you’d like to point that out to Mary G. Morris, the Chief Executive Officer of Virginia529 College Savings Plan, the biggest mutual fund investor in both Spectra Energy and in Enbridge, which is buying Spectra.

Sabal Trall will soon start drilling under the Suwannee River, and under
Suwannee River State Park and the Falmouth Cathedral Cavern System next to Pilgrim’s Pride on US 90.
According to Trail’s November 4th 2016 biweekly report,
clearing and pad completion should be done by about now,
so they’re about to start horizontal directional drilling (HDD),
like they’re already doing under the
Santa Fe River in Florida
and
the Withlacoochee River in Georgia.
At both of those rivers they’ve been seen in apparent violations.
What will they do under the Suwannee River?
These pictures show how close Sabal Trail and the HDD sites are to the river, the park, the springs, and US 90. Continue reading
