20 people in 17 boats on an astoundingly beautiful rural blackwater river into the biggest city in the entire Suwannee River Basin:
here are pictures from
the WWALS outing from Staten Road Bridge in Lowndes County to Langdale Park on the edge of Valdosta, both in south Georgia, Spring Equinox,
Sunday 20 March 2016.
Thanks to everyone who came, especially to WWALS Outings Chair Chris Mericle for leading the expedition,
and to Georgia Page, Steve, and Travis of the Valdosta-Lowndes Parks and Recreation Authority (VLPRA) for letting us into Langdale Park even though it was closed for renovations.
Gretchen Quarterman went on Charlie Walker’s 99.5 KIX Country radio show the next morning to tell everybody about it.

River Pictures by Bryan Garris for WWALS Water Trail Workshop @ VSU 2016-02-27
This Saturday, day after tomorrow, is the Withlacoochee and Little River Workshop
at VSU!
Art exhibit and auction organizer Julie Bowland sent these pictures by Bryan Garris, saying:
I will have an assortment of painting sizes on easels. I’m thinking there will be around 20 easel works and a table full of matted photographs. There will be a minimum bid set by individual artists, with 20% going to WWALS.
You can also bring your own artwork or objects to donate to WWALS for auction. See you there! Continue reading

Pictures: Withlacoochee River, GA 122 to Franklinville Road 2013-04-20
One of the remotest segments of the Withlacoochee River, yet
with easy access, and when the water was high enough.
Also one of the least-attended WWALS outings, because we
hadn’t really gotten the hang of
announcing outings yet. But that just made it more intimate for
the three of us who went. I got especially intimate with the river,
choosing to swim twice. I always choose to swim when the water
comes up to meet me…. Eventually I learned not to lean towards
the side you’re tipping towards.
The closest USGS gauge is Continue reading
Pictures: Withlacoochee and Suwannee Rivers, WWALS Outing, 2014-09-21
Gretchen Quarterman took these pictures on the
Withlacoochee and Suwannee paddle: springs, shoals, and pipeline 21 Sept 2014.
This was a long outing Chris Mericle organized down two rivers with many people, past springs, shoald, and sinkholes,
and past the crossings formerly proposed by Spectra Energy for its Sabal “Sinkhole” Trail fracked methane pipeline before it moved upstream on the Suwannee,
as seen
2015-08-15 and
2015-11-15.
It was also before we started the
Withlacoochee and Little River Water Trail.
