In what document did FERC permit concrete wrapped around Sabal Trail pipe?
And why was concreted pipe still being trucked in yesterday,
two weeks after these aerials?

Sabal Trail runs half a mile from Dunnellon High School and Elementary School, and even closer to a golf club to the north. In 2009 Florida Gas Transmission (FGT) blew up a much smaller 18-inch pipeline, flying a 104-foot piece of 18-inch pipe through the air, shutting down both I-95 and the Florida Turnpike, and fortunately missing a high school. You can help stop this $3.2 billion boondoggle and get on with solar power now for the Sunshine State.
And to the north, it’s even closer to Julliette Falls Golf Club and Community. Continue reading

Today Sabal Trail Inc. is pounding a 36-inch pipe under the Withlacoochee River to force-feed us Marcellus Shale fracked gas. The powers who own decision-makers have made sure laws and regulations designed to protect the planet don’t apply to themselves. Twentieth century mindset — 21st century reality notwithstanding, they’ll offer a few hundred temporary jobs, conduct corporate social responsibility PR programs before moving on to other ventures, enabled by government agencies and politicians eager to board the fracked-gas crony capitalist bullet train, while the people, our waters and health are classified acceptable risks.
Mission accomplished while taking land through eminent domain with an unknown (by the public) quantity for export — unsurprising since there are Continue reading

Sabal Trail and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection assured us there would be no problems drilling a 36-inch natural gas pipeline through the fragile karst limestone under the Suwannee River in Florida, yet already Sabal Trail’s pilot hole under the Withlacoochee River in Georgia caused a frac-out of drilling mud into the river and a sinkhole.
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers should halt construction and do a Supplemental Environmental Impact Statement.
When I happened to fly over the Withlacoochee River frac-out, I also saw Continue reading

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Live Oak, Florida, January 4, 2017
—Spectra Energy of Houston, Texas is drilling its 36-inch fracked
methane pipeline under the Suwannee and Withlacoochee (south) Rivers
in Florida right now. It already caused a frac-out of drilling mud
into the Withlacoochee River in Georgia and a sinkhole, plus more
sinkholes where it drilled under the Santa Fe River in Florida. How
did this happen? What can we do to stop this unnecessary,
destructive, and hazardous corporate boondoggle?
Suwannee Riverkeeper calls water protectors to rally in Live Oak

It seems to miss one of the main points, but thanks to Mary G. Morris, CEO, VA529, for a thoughtful reply to the WWALS request to divest from Spectra Energy.
It seems to me that investing in a highly risky pipeline company such as
Spectra Energy would be “contrary to [VA529’s] overall investment goals and mission”, at least if those goals include reliable investments for college,
and not stranded investments.
It might be worth looking into the Parnassus Core Equity Fund she mentions. Perhaps college savers who want reliable investments would want to consider moving their investments there.
Suwannee Riverkeeper may continue correspondence with VA529.
Meanwhile, VA529 has a handy VA529 contact form or you can call or write: Continue reading

Through their efforts, much information on the dangerous pipeline was brought to the attention of elected officials and the public.
The Mericles were the prime movers in getting Sabal Trail to move off the Withlacoochee River in Florida. In August 2014 Chris Mericle told the Hamilton BOCC he was trying not to be emotional. Continue reading
